Sharm El Sheikh —
Sinai Coast

A resort town on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula — known for clear water, reef diving, and proximity to Mount Sinai.

Coast, Desert
and Sacred Mountain

Sharm El Sheikh sits where the Gulf of Aqaba and Gulf of Suez meet, giving it some of the most sheltered and clear water in the Red Sea. It is well-established as a diving and beach destination, but its proximity to Mount Sinai, Saint Catherine’s Monastery, and the Sinai interior makes it more than a beach resort for those willing to explore beyond the waterfront.

Sharm El Sheikh · What to Know

01

Ras Mohammed National Park

A protected marine park at the southern tip of Sinai — one of the Red Sea’s most respected dive sites. Strong currents, large pelagic fish, wall diving, and exceptionally clear water.

02

Mount Sinai

2,285 metres above sea level, traditionally identified as the site where Moses received the Ten Commandments. Most visitors hike overnight to reach the summit for sunrise. Physically demanding but straightforward.

03

Saint Catherine’s Monastery

One of the oldest continuously occupied monasteries in the world, built in the 6th century AD. Houses important early Christian manuscripts and icons. At the foot of Mount Sinai.

04

Tiran Island

An uninhabited island at the mouth of the Gulf of Aqaba with four named reefs — Jackson, Woodhouse, Thomas, and Gordon. Popular with liveaboard diving boats and day trips.

05

Coloured Canyon

A narrow sandstone canyon in the Sinai interior — eroded walls in layers of red, yellow, and purple. Around 2 hours from Sharm by road. Best visited early morning.

06

Naama Bay

The main waterfront area — restaurants, dive centres, and the Old Market. Busy in the evenings. The majority of hotels and services are concentrated here or along the Sharm El Sheikh road.

“Sharm is usually thought of as a beach destination. But it is also the closest access point to Mount Sinai — one of the most significant sites in three world religions.”
